Notes overlay
Open from Edit -> Preferences… -> Video Preview -> Edit Note Overlay Appearance…, or from Tools via Edit Note Overlay Appearance… when available.
Configures how notes (and optional Cue ID) look on the video preview. Master enable toggles also exist on the Video Preview Preferences page; keep them consistent with how you work.

Overlay controls
Section titled “Overlay controls”Enable overlay
Section titled “Enable overlay”Master switch for the notes overlay on the video preview.
When to use: Turn on for programming and director monitors. Turn off for a clean client preview feed.
Reduce font size to fit
Section titled “Reduce font size to fit”When enabled, shrinks text so long notes still fit in the overlay area.
When to use: Leave on for cues with multi-line stage directions. Turn off when you want a fixed large size and accept clipping of very long text.
Show Cue ID
Section titled “Show Cue ID”Draws the cue ID in the overlay (same idea as Show Cue ID in Video Overlay on the Video Preview page).
When to use: Enable when operators call cues by number on picture; disable when only note text matters.
Show background
Section titled “Show background”Draws a backing plate behind the text for readability.
When to use: Keep on over busy stage video. Turn off only when the plate fights a branded IMAG look and contrast is already high enough.
Font size
Section titled “Font size”Base text size before any reduce-to-fit behaviour (10 to 96).
When to use: Raise for a confidence monitor across the room; lower for a dense overlay that must not cover talent faces.
Alignment
Section titled “Alignment”Where the overlay sits on the frame:
| Option |
|---|
| Top left |
| Top center |
| Top right |
| Center |
| Bottom left |
| Bottom center |
| Bottom right |
When to use: Prefer Bottom center or Bottom left so notes stay clear of upper third graphics. Use a top corner when action is always in the lower frame.
Text colour
Section titled “Text colour”| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Cue Type colour | Follows the cue type colour coding |
| White | Fixed white text |
| Black | Fixed black text |
When to use: Cue Type colour so pyro vs lights notes read by colour. White on dark plates; Black on bright daylight content.
Background colour
Section titled “Background colour”Tint and opacity of the backing plate when Show background is on: Black 40%, Black 70%, White 40%, Grey 40%.
When to use: Black 70% on dark stage video. White 40% or Grey 40% on bright plates so black text stays readable.
Commits appearance changes in the dialog. Enter also applies. Escape closes without applying pending edits in that dialog session.
When to use: Click after adjusting font and colours, then confirm Preferences with OK / Apply if you also changed the Video Preview page toggles.
